Tunes From Time and Place Book + Time and Place - The Field Recordings release December 2020
During the past few months of Autumn in Nashville, George Jackson has been working hard on writing out notated transcriptions of all twelve of the original fiddle tunes from his 2019 debut album "Time and Place" and is officially releasing the book on December 10th, 2020. The book features detailed notations including specifics of his bowings written out, along with some descriptions of left hand techniques on some tunes. Plus there are three pages of behind the scenes photos from the 2018 recording session and photos of some of the places associated with the melodies, as well as written anecdotes, tales and descriptions about the conception, writing, inspiration and recording of each tune. The collection makes for a fun companion to the album "Time and Place", for those interested in the stories behind the melodies (there's some good ones!) or as a supplement to digging into details as a player looking for details on chords, notes, bowings or forms. The book is available for order now on Bandcamp, or subscribe to George’s Patreon page to receive it for just the price of a one month, one time subscription of $20.
In support of the release of his new book of transcriptions and descriptions coming out December 10th, George is also releasing a digital collection of field recordings of all the tunes from "Time and Place". This collection features the very first demos, jams and memos he made after writing each tune on the album. Some stuff is pretty rough, other stuff shows a lot of potential right from the word go, some of the melodies are different, some are the same. I hope you enjoy this look behind the curtain of my writing process. In the true spirit of oldtime music, he presents to you "Time and Place - The Field Recordings" direct from his iPhone.
